You may feel distracted, insecure, and worried. Everything feels like it's too much to juggle recently.
I help people struggling to find balance create more joy, wholeheartedness, confidence, and ease in their lives.
Hi, my name is Danielle Carney, and I’m a therapist who specializes in the treatment of anxiety and depression.
I provide online counseling in Florida, Delaware, and South Carolina.
You’re hard-working and passionate about what’s important to you. The high expectations you set for yourself are beginning to feel a bit suffocating, and even though you might reach your goals, you’re still left with a feeling of emptiness. It’s still not good enough.
Maybe you’re starting to find it difficult to keep up with all the people you feel rely on you when your own inner world feels complex and anxiety-ridden. You feel like you should be having fun when you go out, but instead you feel stuck in your head, worried about what everyone thinks about you.
Maybe because of how hard you are on yourself, you’re noticing more disconnection in your relationships with others and with yourself. Your mind is always ten steps ahead of where you are in the moment. Maybe because of how you grew up, you have difficulty fully trusting the people in your life, so you’ve learned to internalize all of your stress. You struggle to be vulnerable and let the people close to you know when you’re having a hard time because you’re worried about being a burden. It’s hard to ask for help because it’s familiar to carry everything on your own, but you’re at a point where the weight on your shoulders is becoming too heavy.
It doesn’t have to be like this. If you’re ready to start feeling better, I’d love to meet you.
Give yourself a break.
My approach to therapy for anxiety
I get it, anxiety can be a real b*tch. And it rarely happens out of nowhere, as randomly as it might seem to be happening right now. Our bodies are really great at letting us know when something’s up, even if we can’t connect with the reason yet.
Maybe you’ve been pushing yourself too hard to keep up with everything your friends are doing, saying yes to things you really don’t want to do, or stressed out by the demands your boss puts on you. Regardless of why it’s showing up, our anxiety is often a helpful (but annoying) messenger that wants us to know, “Hey! Something needs to change here!”
In our work together, we’ll get to explore what’s led you to this place of overwhelm, uncover underlying beliefs that keep you pushing for more (even when your body is throwing a literal fit), and figure out what to do about it to support the peaceful, drama-free life you’d like to create for yourself.
“Perhaps the biggest tragedy of our lives is that freedom is possible, yet we can pass our years trapped in the same old patterns...We may want to love other people without holding back, to feel authentic, to breathe in the beauty around us, to dance and sing. Yet each day we listen to inner voices that keep our life small.”
How do I know if I have anxiety?
Everyone feels anxiety, but when it gets to a place where you feel like the worry, overthinking, need to keep striving for more, and general feeling of being stressed out is interfering in your life, you might have an anxiety disorder. In our first couple sessions together, we’ll go through the assessment process to get an understanding of your needs and how I can help, and at the end, I’ll share my clinical impressions with you. From there, we’ll talk about next steps to start getting the overwhelm and worry under control.
What should I know about treatment for anxiety?
Treatment usually focuses on themes related to getting outside of your comfort zone and learning to let go of control. This can sound scary to someone who control has become very important for, but we’ll collaborate on a pace that’s most effective for you. As paradoxical as it sounds, the practice of letting go actually gives you a lot of control back. Together we’ll figure out the function of your anxiety, and we’ll work to reduce the amount it’s getting in the way of you living your life.
